Press Release: Committee Chaired by Senator Estes to Study and Make Recommendations on Removing Barriers to Second Amendment Rights

Austin – Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst has released an interim charge instructing the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Rural Affairs, and Homeland Security to study and make recommendations on removing barriers to the exercise of the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

On the interim charge Estes said, “I am excited by the opportunity to research ways to make it easier for Texans to exercise their constitutional rights and applaud Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst for his leadership in protecting the Second Amendment.”

The charge specifically includes studying the issue of open-carry and other state laws related to the open-carry of firearms.

Regarding the specific inclusion of open-carry Estes said, “Open-carry is a very important issue to many Texans and I intend to tackle it with the seriousness and open-mindedness it deserves.”
